In the colder waters, I have caught trout out here every time out. Range of 16\" across from the Negro Bar dock to 22.5\" under Rainbow Bridge. Caught limit on May 5 trollin\' in my little inflatable with a rod out each side and they were hitting everywhere from picnic area to the prison... Now that the water is above 70deg, however, the trout fishing is pretty much over. Looking forward to seeing the smallmouth action out here.

12/21/2012. rain and wind. because of the recent storms, the water release from Folsom dam went from 331CFS, to 4,147CFS in only a couple days. the water is moving fast and is very cold. despite that, i am catching lots of little bullheads, with a few nice larger bites that i never did hookup. redworms was the bait of choice, powerbait works well here too, but only when the outflow is under 300cfs, or else the bait gets taken off of your hook by the current. i would advise anyone to be super careful at the spots above rainbow bridge, the rocks and terrain are steep, and most spots will put you right into the river if you fall. the tagging on the rocks out here is outrageous. in 2013, we will start having people out here videotaping anyone who is spray painting the rocks, and turning them into the police department.

Honestly this is a great lake to fish in I\'ve caught monster trout rangeing a lb to 15 lbs have catch nice bass and some Catfish even kokaknee but you have to but in the time tears sweat and blood to find them but always your best shot for anything in this lake is under and above rainbow bridge pretty much where its deep fast moving water is your best bet using live minnows and light tackle these fish are smart.

"fishing upriver past Rainbow Bridge is the only way i know to catch a fish at this lake. There are only a few decent spots off shore to do this, however, and really only one spot to fish from shore on the southeastern side."

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The water temperature is climbing and the catfish will start becoming more active now. The catfish spawn is right around the corner and generally all catfish species will be looking to spawn. Blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish spawn in much the same areas. Mostly spawning in deep tree lay downs that have lots of shade, holes in the bank, sunken barrels and tires. With baitfish becoming active, it?s time to catch some small sunfish, bluegill, shad and frogs and getting the line in the water.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The full moon has just past. The gravitational pull is starting to decrease with the moon and sun being on opposite sides of the planet. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today's solar/lunar peaks. It's always fun trying something new at the peak times to change things up a bit and test out the Lunar Theory each time you hit the water in close to full and full moon situations. Good luck you there.
