Got out on the water around 6:30 am. Launched the boat at the East ramp and fished the Northeast side of the lake all morning. Caught one small smallmouth right off the docks with a crankbait on my third cast. Fishing was very slow until about 9am when I hit into 3 Largemouth bass at the base of a tree cluster. I was pitching a 5/16oz black and blue jig right to the base of the trees. I pulled all 3 fish out of the exact same spot. First two were just over 1 lb, and the third was 3 1/2 lbs. I was on the water until about 11am with four fish caught, one of them a good size.

Lake Lowell Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Largemouth Bass are being caught in 2 to 6 feet of water deep in heavy cover. Flipping and pitching jigs at the base of trees and isolated brush piles seems to be working very well. Be sure to use heavy line because you will have to pull these fish out of heavy cover. With very warm weather expected for the next 7 days, the water temp should warm up quite a bit in the next week.

Lake Lowell Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Catfish are being caught in several locations with a Carolina or plunking rig with chicken liver or
worms. Stink bait isn\'t usually something these lake cats bite on but not out of the seen totally. They
bite primarily early morning and anytime after 6pm, really slow mid day.

Lake Lowell Smallmouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- I have only caught two very small smallmouth bass this year (2012) at Lowell. They seem to be holding on the outside edges of weedbeds and submerged structure in about 6-12 feet of water. Use crankbaits or spinnerbaits to draw them out of the cover. Also look for rocky shelves or gravel bottom, as they will begin spawning in these areas soon. With air temps projected to be in the upper 80\'s for the next 7 days, the water temps should warm up considerably.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
