Species: Catfish
Fishing Rating: 2
Water Temperature:
Mostly slow today bank fishing along the North levee about mid-way down to the hot water outflow. Most of the other fishermen the last few days have had the same slow results. The weather has been warmer than normal, possibly affecting the migration to warmer parts of the lake during the winter.

Water Temperature:
12/30/2012 - Spent the morning shore fishing for catfish near the water outflow along the North levee. Caught several 8-12 lb Blues on cut Bluegill. Let the under-current move the bait along the bottom. Consistent action all morning. Forgot my bobbers or would have tried drifting, too.

Baldwin Lake Largemouth Bass Rating:
4
Baldwin Lake Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Largemouth bass are scarce due to a fish kill 2 years ago. Population is slowly recovering, with the average fish around 17 inches.
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Baldwin Lake at 52 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.
Baldwin Lake Smallmouth Bass Rating:
3
Baldwin Lake Smallmouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Smallies are improving, and more abundant than largemouth bass. Average fish runs around 15\".
Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the water temperature at 52 degrees smallmouth bass fishing is ready to heat up for spring. The bass will be starting to move into their spawning area. Smallmouth bass will generally spawn on rock and gravel bottoms that are protected from the elements. It's time to get fishing and look for staging bass in deeper water.
Baldwin Lake Crappie Rating:
2.5
Baldwin Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie should be getting ready to spawn. Stay out in deeper water and look for schools. Schooling shad will be harder to find with this water temperature so when you find it, stay on it. Crappie schools will be breaking up quite a bit getting ready for the spawn. Also try fishing shallower with small crank baits and spinners on the warm banks with direct sunlight. This is a great time to be on the water.
Baldwin Lake Walleye Rating:
2.5
Baldwin Lake Walleye Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The walleye spawn is in full swing now. With Walleye spawning grounds generally on gravel and rocky bottoms and preferring clean water. Try throwing reaction type baits up in the shallows. Rip-Rap, damns, rocky bottom points are perfect to hit. Try fishing some faster crank baits and spinners this time of year. As always fall back to the standard walleye fishing tactics, but it won?t hurt bringing out the bass gear in search for spawning walleyes. In this water temperature, always be safe on the water.
Baldwin Lake Catfish Rating:
4
Baldwin Lake Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- this has way to many dead fish floating in the southern end of the lake and most
of the fish are in their 30 pound range and theres an oily film on the water
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.
