I have spent many hours fishing Graham lake since 2010 and the number of Largemouth Bass I catch each year has increased. I am not sure if it is related, but the numbers of Smallmouth Bass I have caught the last two years has dwindled. I tend to spend most of my time fishing the upper lake toward the confluence of the East & West Branch. In fact, I know little about the fishing towards the damn.

Species: Largemouth Bass
Fishing Rating: 1
Water Temperature:
I am a guide, Bog Mountain Guide Service, and the largemouth are present and becoming more abundant. Caught first one perhaps three years ago and spent a few fishing days this year specifically assessing distribution, localized population density, and size of fish throughout the lake. Found them everywhere but also located fairly dense population pockets. Caught a 4.1# largemouth but most are in the 9\" - 12\" range. I think they were illegally introduced perhaps 5-6 years ago? but they are clearly there to stay.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Graham Lake at 49 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 49 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.

Graham Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the Water Temperature at 49 Prime Crappie fishing is in full swing. Crappies should be migrating to their spawning areas now. They?ll either be up in the final spawning area now or at tributary entrances. Concentrate around 15 feet of water. Fish Primary points at the mouth of the creek arms. Fish Targets at this point instead of focusing on bait fish. Fish trees, shrubs, vegetation, etc. Fishing correctly this time of year will get you snagged quite a bit since you need to focus on making and keeping contact with the cover.

- Brown bullhead catfish are pretty easy to
find. You can even see schools of young
catfish around the lake. I use a Carolina
rig, and have no difficulty bringing them
in

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

New Moon fishing can be at its best. The gravitational pull on the earth is at its peak when the moon and sun are rising and setting at the same time of day. This combination can generate extraordinary fishing opportunities especially if combined with perfect weather variances. The new moon may have the fish extremely aggressive and actively hunting for food. Try fishing a little faster today and with several different baits and techniques. When fish are more aggressive, its always fun to fish a little more aggressive. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today?s solar/lunar peaks. Have a great day!
