3/21/2016 report ive been vacant with reports due to pressure on the water fishing . the panfish bite at browns beach was good but ended early (access was poor ). the lake blew out completely on 3 /10 on Friday . I know I was catching 1.5 bass on floaters in mannings cove with ice cubes washing by us at dawn . 3 swans were in the cove as well . I fished the creek for walleyes and the lake till season closed. I didn't get my goal of walleyes on the ice . it was 1 !!! the other 43 came at ice out and creek fishing . my biggest disappointment was the locals taking more than their limit . time n time again each day !!!!!after this spring run I graciously accept a closed creek laws to be formed before the 15 of march . its a MUST . with a local tackle shop advertising the 4 car parking lot on the internet for more business ,to sell minnows which don't work when stickbaits do and none on the shelf to sell . . . . . hhhhmmmm in the last 5 yrs ive seen the future demise to this access coming, the noise till 1 to 2 am has residents just reeling with spite . it will happen . there was a great lack of respect to the access and area . lets not forget the residents who lost their quite trail either . enforcement can do only so much and they did what they could . id love to see the trail closed from 2/20 to 3/15. get rid of the animals !!!!! so now to the crappie bite . the bouy lines at weedlines are a general guide line for place to be . 100 ft away to the sand either side of them works . the south end is all ready got them shallow and franklin cove . use small bug presentations in the early season minnows as water warms

2 /18/2016 well after a break from fishing . I got on the lake last 2 days within 300 ft I\'m finding 10 to 12\" ice and 7 t0 8\" main lake . . . . do not attempt state launch with atv,s the bubblers are holding their own in current and open areas . past both points of bridge . I\'m at a location very public catching a mixed bag of 1 to 3.5 lb bass, pickerel ,a crappy or 2 and plenty of gills . . . . . . . . . I\'m using anything with a silver flash and color . cady rats ,small spoons with single hook , rockers , and plastic presentations . today hunter green ruled and you had to shake it with only 3 second pauses or dead stick on a bucket, my results are a morning bite to mid afternoon . it died by 4 each day with fish present . I know, I\'m an afternoon man not an am man, prefer more warmth of the day . no eve bite yet and the water clarity at my location is 2 ft vision of your lure .. not pursueing the walleyes yet in time till then the panfish are my target . besides they have much more flavor . after 40 yrs catching walleyes . cheeks and belly fillet are my favorite parts of the fish . not the fillet of the back :(:( I find it lack of flavor and needs flavoring . but that\'s me after 40 yrs eating them . . . . . . . . . good luck to all fishing will only get better at this point and will update my results as they come

2/10 /2016 to follow on last report suckers are taking walleyes still . as I\'m told . number 5 to 7 rapala rules my preference gold /black, silver/blue. chartreuse /white. hot red /gold . local tackle shops diminished in this area . Saratoga lake lost its local shop at launch area . now on rt 29 . the only leading shop for 10 -15 miles of the lake is wiggly worm , gary 4 generation owner . is growing strong . and has not lost his touch of available baitfish to say the least . !!! he has lures that old bill (pops) bought in his 70 yr life span . it is unreal to see the nostalgia of available lures 50 yrs ago boxed in package still !!! if I see 1 thing happening hes going big n wont disappear from the market . signed purple demon or walleye joe ( I cant shake the new name I got dubbed 3 yrs ago )

2/10/2016. after 3 days fishing north end and fish creek . I managed to get a lb or 2 at the least in fillets of perch fillets ,each day . I did discover 1 jumbo for every 8 or 12 juveniles . we used pink plastics as our best presentation on Monday . pk spoon was a favorite for me but plastic ruled mon . we had 4 inches to 8 inches of ice even a spotty 10. I found the pk a great search engine lure and the pink minnows to puck up bigger ones of the group. I cant reveal the pink minnows name due to it can compromise an old friendship ( he showed it to me 10 yrs ago ). I will have a much better report on main lake by Monday next wk . chances are ill stay in for the cold spell . . . . . . . . . . . . . what was interesting was I shined (flashlight at nt ) on a shiners before ice up BIG ONES 12- 14 inchers . I found those same fish there a month later at my 3rd hole . caught a few quickly . our jumbos perch few as they were on that side were much larger than the other side . . . . . . . . . . . . . the current is significant in the creek after the rain fall early last week . a 1/16 oz checkia jig will go to the side of your hole when in 15 ft or better . with current snow on the ice by nxt wk its a crappie, bluegill hunt , by march back on the walleyes . I wish I could give you more here but its the reality of a poor season . just as lake George though . with no fishing pressure makes fish bigger for the taking . I did find a typical pattern at south basin that shows the perch are in a huge bloom as the walleyes have last few yrs . in 2118 on . mark my words this lake is going to be downright HOT to fish . my logs show that we are in an explosive pattern due to the warm winters around 2011- 2012 by 2020 . there will be walleyes above 8 lbs and fat 24 \" 6.5 to 7.5 lb fish . my logs are over 20yrs old

yo I\'m back 2/6 2116. the report is poor ice for main lake . if you can not get wet at south end prior to entering good for you !!!!. I fished an undisclosed place (private access) we found perch of all size forms . no northerns or walleyes . did not find the gills yet but by Monday I may and the crappies not far away either . the food is tremendous in the area . I got 12 inch shiners today 3 ft below ice by the scads if desired to do so . tomorrow the pike rigs go out . 1st for me in a decade . signed purple demon

I found 10 \" ice and 4 outside of busted area that rings south end anything more is a bonus . a Honda civic did park on the thin ice today that came from browns beach . this could compromise public parking :(:(:( lots of small fish . poor fishing as always at this calendar time at the lake for the south end . I personally ran the locks 1 from the other all down river til with no avail. we gave up by 230

1 /28/2116. after getting reports of one thickness to another . I had to go out and see personally in 3 areas. I don\'t recommend atv/snowmachines yet it is viable to walk many many areas to fish . mostly if at all weed lines and just beyond to outside weed line . all broken ice areas are 6 inches at worst 8 just prior of those edges. the 1.5 inch to 2 inch report is valid . in many areas of deep water . in my entire passing today at 1 pm not one person on fresh ice except south end . the wind today at 36 temp had a slick wet surface . yes the wind is melting it !!!!

1 25 2116 report lake is covered yet not atv friendly . reports are 3.5 to 4 . I\'m not suggesting safe ice . we yet to see what nxt weather pattern(warm) will do with existing conditions . ive yet to see the spring holes brk or where deep water is its warmest . I do not recommend a trip to the area without great knowledge.. for some of us are deemed insane or crazy to pursue a fish on thin ice . I call it lack of patience and information (acceptance )and pushing the envelope to just fish . stupidity does arise with this mentality lol so my report is proceed if you must with great caution . I chose champlain last sunday 7 nchs at south bay slow bite . white crappies at basin hole areas south of the bridge . signed purple demon

1/17/2116 ice status report . fish creek poorly recommended . south end barely recommended . you have to travel north of launch to find any good ice over water deeper than 12\'. this is not good. all should walk with a spud bar . heres the problem the open water is taking on water temps from the air rather than funneling through ice in which cools upper water coloumn . NOT HAPPENING !!!!! reasons show up as facts while I travel with a life preserver at the south end today .. . . . . I went from 5 inches at sand edge to weeds to fishing a very questionable 2.5. not a hundred 100 from open water and waves . I did manage 12 ft in an area found fish easily . . . . . . . until shallows are covered with snow its a dawn or dusk panfish bite until snow arrives . at 12 ft the fish can see US !!!! don\'t kid yourself . tipups extremely helpful once you walk away from them . lol . yes I did say they see you . I did manage a nice plump walleye 21\" on a 3/4 ounce rattlin rap. the perch bumped the hell out of it but scaling down did not produce any bumps or hits . a few perch number 7 rapala jig . they wouldn\'t touch a smaller one . nothing on spoons . . . . . . . . with this great cold front /artic blast . im kidding here its just average dec temps coming . I pray the open water with the heavy wind n cold maybe just maybe might give us the same questionable ice I fished today . this just !@#$%^&*. for I have patterns that work in that deep water and are true to use religiously . but my new patterns are better search engines without electronics involved . they actually are a elimination process that like math work and work well . im truly saying till another report comes up saying different . be very careful and don\'t expect good ice for travel until February . signed purple demon

- South Shore in spring
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at 91 degree water temperature. Bass will start moving much slower and feeding less aggressively until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, it's time to get out fishing early and late in the day when the sun is not on the water. When you can get out for the entire day, it's a great time to fish some deeper water. Many large bass are taken this time of year since bass fishermen typically gets out deeper and fish slower with larger baits. Like any other time of year, the slower you fish with bigger baits on the deep drops and river channels, the better chance you have at a lunker. This is a great time to catch a trophy. Good luck out there today!

Saratoga Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- hello folks back to update spring on the lake crappies have basically been on since ice out . depending on anglers who adjust . . . and those who don't lol . so many people don't realize just because its cold for you!! the fish don't stop feeding . ive been into a golden shiner pod that is coming in at 2 at a time 9 to 10 " avrge . some goldens exceed that length in a surprising way . funny my crappies are within a 100 ft n thick in numbers . so I'm picking my poisons lol, . my water temp is avrging 44 to 50 degrees depending on solar activity and wind . if you put an ant or fly below a bobber . fish ALL day . traditional baits :(:(:(:(:(:( signed walleye joe or purple demon
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Your lake crappie will be much more lethargic in the water temperature. They will be in deeper and cooler water. Crappie will be feeding; however they will not be feeding aggressively unless the other fishing factors are at prime levels. Find some moving water that is clear and you should find some more aggressive fishing.

- 12 27 2015 . I need to correct last post it was 24 walleyes not 14. I took a friend I mentored for yrs at 6am 12/26. very cold start ice on everything from humidity . started in mannings cove discovered duck hunters . fished outside weedline . 0 fish went to west banks going south got into jumbo perch hitting 1/2 to 3/4 rattlin raps . went for brkfst came back to the cove . cody got 2 walleyes 18inches.and many perch . all day not another walleye . bass yes no walleyes went to the east . he got 1 more walleye 19 to 20 at dusk . rather than travel to a new spot we ageed it was a great day to fish as old times ( he told me I must be whipped ) OH YEAH . the best was at the launch I found out from most if not al, he got the only 3 walleyes by boat and a 24 came from shore . it was a nice communion at the launch with many
Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the water temperatures up this high, the walleye will really be moving slow and feeding even slower. It will be extremely difficult to stay on fish and catch good numbers. There will be good days that you can find a good pattern and fill the live well up. The good days of walleye fishing will be fewer and farther between until the water temperature gets back down. Good luck.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Catfish will be more active than most other species in the lake. However they will be feeding much slower due to the lake having less oxygen and less healthy than when the water temperature is a little cooler. Donít throw in the towel, your monster catfish may be waiting for you. As always the best time to go fishing is every time you can go fishing. Good luck!

Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at this water temperature. Bass will typically start moving much slower and feeding less aggressive until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, get out fishing early and late and cast in the shallows. When the sun is up it will be time to get out into deeper water, try fishing some drop offs and deep channel bends.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
