I put in at Powder Cove at 7:30 am. I cranked main lake points with a yellow and blue 15+ crankbait. I caught around 10 smallmouth around 1 pound. Around 1 pm I hit some coves out of the wind. It was blowing pretty hard with gusts up to 20 mph. In the coves the water temp. was up to 62 degrees. I caught 1 lgmth. under some debris. Lake is full, with lots of cover. Water clarity is good (about 6 or 7 ft.) I found no beds from Marina to dam. Note: catfish are in back of coves staging. Caught 4 bass on chigger craws in the pumpkin seed color, texas rigged. The largest one was about 1 1/2 lb. All were released. smallmouth55 5/3/14

As of 6-22-13, Prineville Reservoir is clearing up. Last week there was alot of algae. It was turning over. Water temp. was at the best 66 degrees. The moon phase was full, now its on the downside. We caught a lot of dink smallmouth cranking and worming the bank. I caught 1 largemouth that weighed 4.7 lbs. in 2\' of water. I searched everywhere for beds, none found except for bullhead catfish. There spawning now. With the unstable weather the bass are still holding off spawning. They are staging out about 12 to 15\' from the coves and inlets. The barometer is falling, but don\'t let that stop you from getting out there, for some reason they get real active when it\'s raining. P.S. I also caught a 3.4 ounce bull trout on a crankbait. Both, the lg.mouth and bull trout were released after some photos were taken. smallmouth55

Greetings, the latest from Prineville Reservoir is tough fishing conditions.Due to the cold front that just passed thru. The water temp. is climbing, and should improve in the coming weekend. The lake is turning over (algae) so the clarity of the water is obstructed. I caught a lot of dinks (12\" & under) on Saturday cranking points and flats. So there chasing. I was not able to find any beds, so they are still staging. As soon as the weather stabilizes, you shouldn\'t have a problem catching some decent size bass. Full moon coming up on Sunday the 23rd. Remember catch, photograph, and release. (CPR), smallmouth55

My honey and I got on the lake at 7:30 AM. We fished bushes, and points with plastics. We caught a few small smallies. A lot of dinks up shallow. Karen (my honey), broke out the white and chartreuse spinnerbait and started running it by large isolated boulders. They were chasing, and she netted a 3 lber. We caught approx. 10 bass total. A little tough, but an awesome day on the lake. Light wind, about 70 degrees, and lots of sun and fun. We took photos and released all. They are very active, and should start spawning soon. We did not see any beds. Till next time, smallmouth55

I went to Prineville Reservoir Mon. Memorial Day. It rained on us all day. It was a steady light rain, and cloudy/with light wind. We used crankbaits, approx. 5 to 10 foot. Caught alot of smallmouth in the range of 1/2 lb. to 2 lb. Then we went to a Berkley Chiggerbaits, in the color of watermelon. We caught 5 largemouth in the 2.5 lb to 4.5 lb range. Outstanding day. The rain stimulated them. Water clarity was clear to stained. We did best on points, and cover. Fish large rocks isolated for larger bass. We fished Chiggerbaits, Texas rigged with 1/4 bullet weights. Strangely enough, the lg.mouths were very active, not lethargic. Please practice catch and release. Read the rules in the new synopsis. There available at any sporting stores, or Walmart. Good fishing, smallmouth55

I went there on Sat. the 27th. The water had gotten warmer from the weekend prior. This Saturday water was in the mid 50\'s on most of the lake. I did find it in the low 60\'s in a few coves, at the very back. The lake had dropped about 8 to 10 inches. Probably for flood control. It is still full, and a lot of cover around the shoreline. Should make for a great spawn this year if the water level can hold till June 1st. I caught 5 smallmouth using a crank bait that dives 8 to 10 ft. There getting active pretty quick. By next weekend (5/4/13) fishing should be much improved. Keep in mind to practice catch and release, If you want to keep a couple for the dinner table, keep a couple in the 2 lb. range, and let the bigger ones go. The big one\'s have better genes for reproduction. See you on the water, smallmouth55

I was all over the lake on 4/20/13. The warmest water was around the marina, at 51 degrees. the coldest was at 47 degrees on the dam end. Smallmouth fishing was tough because the barometer was holding steady, but a cold front had just passed through the day prior. Smallies were staging just off the main points in about 12 to 16 ft. But because of the c. Front they moved back down a bit. By next weekend, with the warm weather this week, cranking the main lake points in about 10 to 12 foot, should be easy to limit out. Try a brown, or red crankbait. The full moon is on Thursday. And remember to practice catch and release. If you want to eat some, take a couple in the 2 lb. range. Let the big ones go. Smallmouth 55

- Right now with the water temp. in the high 40\'s and low 50\'s, crank your main lake points with a crankbait that dives around 10 ft. Make cast across the point,
and on both sides. Smallies are staging for spawning, during the day they are feeding on points. After the water gets in the 60\'s, then you can fish plastics,
or cranks around drop offs, and cliffs.
Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is not very good when the water temperature is this low.

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappies will be deep and much more sluggish now than in warmer temperature water. They are definitely catchable if you know a few tips. Check the main river channels in deep water. Catching crappie from 25 all they down below 60 feet deep is not uncommon for this time of year. Vertical presentations work best in winter. Fish straight down below the boat using minnows, and other live bait, or really good scented bait. Kentucky Rigged baits and spoons jigged vertically and nice and slow work great also. Good luck!

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The crescent moon will have better gravitational pull than a gibbous or half moon. However the affects of the moons gravitational will be decreased since the sun and moon aren't pulling in conjunction with one another. It's time to pay close attention to the other fishing factors in the weather to make the best decision for hitting the water.
