The lake was covered with a fog yesterday (10/3/12) and was dead calm for most of the morning. The silence on the water was deafening. I fished the Tohican area for 2 hours without a bite. Moved to near the Marina where I obeserved the Fish & Game Dept. in the process of stocking a few hundred 8\"-12\" fish dispersed into deeper water areas of the lake. After another 2 hours of fishing I only had one small bass that hit a 4\" senko. By that point it had become so hot and humid, even with the light drizzle that fell, I decided to call it a day. In all of that time, I only observed 3 splashes on the surface. It seemed like the lake was dead.

Fishing in this lake is very tricky. Some days the fish will be active, and some days the bite will be completely dead. The bass seem to like smoke pearl blue color 4 inch senkos, but you have to use weedless hooks. Every once in a while you\'ll get a hit from a muskie or a pickerel, but not often. As I said before, it can be very tricky in this lake, and although most of the time when you do catch fish they\'re at least 3 pounds, there are days when you catch maybe 6 bass under 6 inches. Overall, it\'s a tough lake, but when you do get fish, they\'re usually good size.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Lake Nockamixon at 44 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 44 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie will just be starting their migrating runs from deep river channels toward major tributaries. They will suspend in open water and channels in deep water and cover on the break lines. Crappie will stage off primary and secondary points this time of year while they are getting ready for spawn. Make sure you don?t forget the river channels, especially with structure and sharp breaks in deep water. Some crappy will hang back in this area waiting to come up to the staging areas. Drifting and slow (REALLY SLOW) trolling with jigs and other artificials work great this time of year. Always look for baitfish schools and concentrate more time when you see the bait.

Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Walleye will be staging and getting ready to spawn now. With Walleye spawning grounds generally on gravel and rocky bottoms and preferring clean water. Start looking for pre-spawn fish in deeper waters with easy access to shallow clean water rocky bottoms. Walleye should be feeding aggressively right up until they start laying eggs. This is a perfect time to be fishing for Walleye.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

New Moon fishing can be at its best. The gravitational pull on the earth is at its peak when the moon and sun are rising and setting at the same time of day. This combination can generate extraordinary fishing opportunities especially if combined with perfect weather variances. The new moon may have the fish extremely aggressive and actively hunting for food. Try fishing a little faster today and with several different baits and techniques. When fish are more aggressive, its always fun to fish a little more aggressive. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today?s solar/lunar peaks. Have a great day!
