three big smallmouth, three hybrid, & a dwarf rockfish that was no more than double the length of the fly, LOL! had my St. Croix fly rod shattered trying to keep a big smallmouth from going over some rapids, landed it using tip section only. :^) fishing probably done for spring, lots of rain last night, water so thick that you can see raccoon tracks floating by in the shallows. have ordered Ugly Stik Big Water fly rod for next spring...

caught 2 nice smallmouth (3+ lb) & 5 hybrids(4# plus) up in river this AM early. fish still hitting on big streamers (4\" plus)cast into breaking fish chasing shad. also had a 10 lb tippet snapped on strike by BIG smallmouth in less than 2\' of water at dawn. brother caught 8# schoolie rock fish yesterday on same flies. need fly reel with better drag, picking a backlash out of a flyreel while trying to fight a fish sucks...

Went out this weekend, had a great smallmouth catch. The wind was a big factor. Fished small coves off the main channel, where the wind pushed the bait fish up in the cove. Used a medium fluke with a bullet sinker and let it sink and just jigged it rapidly in one spot. Caught 8 smallmouth and two largemouh with total weight of 46lb. Two smallmouth were over 5lb. Wish I had hooked them before spawn, would have had some monsters.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 37 degrees. If you have a chance to get out on the water, you are going to have to fish deep and slow. Jig fishing and Plastic baits may be your best bet this time of year for largemouth bass. You may also try fishing some sinking jerk baits.

Cherokee Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie fishing is sometimes at its best with the water temperature down this low. Crappie will be in large schools and follow the large shad schools around in extremely deep water. Find the deepest parts of your lake in old river channels and scan your graph for schooling shad. When you find the school, drop your plastics or live bait down to the bottom of the shad and get ready. Many crappie fishermen will be catching awesome numbers and size of fish this time of year. If you are brave enough to get out on the water this time when the water temperature is this cold, it can really pay off. Be careful out there, remember to boat safely. Never take any chances at these temperatures.
Cherokee Lake Walleye Rating:

Cherokee Lake Walleye Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Walleye function very well in the colder water temperatures. Try fishing some open flats and definitely use live bait when the water temperature is this low. Plastics with scent added will also produce results, but nothing beats live bait for walleye.

Cherokee Lake Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The crescent moon will have better gravitational pull than a gibbous or half moon. However the affects of the moons gravitational will be decreased since the sun and moon aren't pulling in conjunction with one another. It's time to pay close attention to the other fishing factors in the weather to make the best decision for hitting the water.
