went yesterday morning on lawther drive side in front the mount vernon mansion and was catching em on cut up gizzard shad. All em weighed in over 4lbs except my biggest one which weighed a hefty 6lbs! I was throwing out as far as I could fishing about 2feet of the bottom. I caught 15 channel cat. they were hitting it pretty aggressively. I thought it was bass jumping on bait fish but it was the catfish! They were jumping out the water about 25 to 30 feet out fro m the bank. but use them cut gizzard shad and you cant go wrong I promise!

I was fishing off the pier on Garland Road at about 6:45pm yesterday, and the guy next to me caught a 15 Lbs carp/buffalo. He was using dark red boilies that appeared to be store bought, but I could be wrong, but later switch over to dough balls. He was casting really far out towards the deep waters near that pier and the spillway, and was fishing 3 large rods sitting on electronic bite indicators.

I caught a small (10" or less) largemouth bass off the fishing pier on Garland Road at about 6:45 p.m. last night. I had watched the barometer drop from 30.22 at 11am to 30.03 at 6pm and decided to hit the lake. I caught him on my first cast (out towards the lake) using a Bomber model 4A crankbait ("moss back craw" color scheme). I threw a few more casts with no success then switched over to crappie baits, also with no success. The guy next to me caught a 15 pound buffalo and another caught 3 crappie (2 keepers and 1 small fish).

Caught an 18" channel catfish up on White Rock Creek on Friday, April 6 at about 8 a.m. I located a ton of catfish a few hundred yards north of the Mockingbird bridge, where there are a series of fallen trees along the western bank of the creek, well before you reach the big bend.

Went this morning around 6:30 on garland road side about 50 yards from the spill way and caught 16 black crappie each weighing around 2 1/2 to 3 3/4 lbs. All 16" long.I was using a chartruese/black sparklely tail road runner. I was tossing it along the bank near a bunch of tree stomps and floating weeds. They where hitting it pretty aggressive and I even missed a few that got me tangled in between the tree stomps as I was only using 4lb test spider wire mono with a ultra lite shimano reel

- In the winter time the crappie school up in the creek North of the lake in huge numbers following the shad. Carey Thorn from TexasOklahomaFishingGuide.com guides there in the dead of winter and catches limits from the bank! We used him last year as guide and highly recommend him. I took my son with me who has never caught a crappie or used a spinning rod, for that matter. We left with 38 slab crappie to 16 inches. Crazy thing was, Carey was targeting them in 3 ft of water in 39 degree weather! We put on polarized glasses and could actually see them.
Other than that, use 4-6 pound mono line. Black/Chart jigs with crappie nibbles are the best thing to use there. Of course the old live minnow trick will do fine, but you will be able to cover more water with jigs is what we learned. Apparently Carey does not start to guide this creek till around Thanksgiving. He said when the water hits about 50 or below, they start the migration up the creek. The colder the better.
A rule people dont really know about this water is, you cant wade in it. Make sure you have a fishing license due to the game wardens patrol the woods waiting for poachers!
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie prefer this water temperature and will be actively feeding and staying in solid patterns. Baitfish are more active and schooling in all parts of the lake in this water temperature.

- I caught a good-sized channel catfish in White Rock Creek this morning, several hundred yards north of Mockingbird Lane, but well before the big bend, while fishing along a bunch of fallen timber on the west bank. I saw quite a few large catfish up there, but was trying to catch crappie.
